As frequently reported in the media, Pitbulls have a poor reputation. But in today’s article, we hope to show you how loveable Red Nosed Pits can really be! They have received quite a bad rap through no fault of their own.

Unfortunately, humans have taken advantage of the Pitbulls’ loyal and obedient nature for centuries, by training and breeding them to fight. But when placed in a loving and nurturing home, Pittie pups blossom and let their true nature shine through!

Despite their checkered past and marred reputation, Pitbulls are actually one of the most friendly and outgoing breeds. In fact, studies show that Pit puppies prefer human contact, over their mother, two weeks sooner than other dogs.

However because of their size, a bite from a Pitbull can easily prove fatal. But this does not necessarily mean they are dangerous. Attentive and responsible breeders have made every effort to breed out the aggression associated with fighting dogs. In fact, according to temperament tests Pitbulls are less aggressive than Golden Retrievers!

But like with any dog, early training and socialization is very important for Pitbulls. Learning boundaries and acceptable behavior is key for all dogs, especially larger breeds like the Red Nose Pit. So before adding one to your family, it is best to brush up on positive training methods.

When your Pitbull is still a puppy, introduce her to people, places, pets, and things that she may encounter frequently. Make sure she has a positive experience so that she learns that she is safe and does not have to be afraid of men in hats, children, loud noises, or other animals. You should also leave interesting toys to entertain her while you are gone.

And if you will be gone from home for more than an hour or two, consider hiring a dog walker to stop by and take your Red Nose Pit for a little walk. It will certainly calm her down and help the time pass more quickly!

Fortunately, when it comes to grooming and coat maintenance Red Nose Pitbulls do not require much! Pitties are known for their short, sleek coats. They shed pretty regularly and do not require much brushing. Just run a soft bristled brush over their backs and sides once a week or so and your Pit’s coat will shine!

Unlike Blue Nose Pitbulls, Red Noses have healthy skin and few issues. They typically only require baths once a month. This will keep their skin’s natural oils intact, so just spot clean them with a damp rag if they get dirty before it is bath time again.

And like with all pups, make sure you stay up to date with ear and tooth cleanings, and annual veterinary exams! Vaccines, preventative medications, and health visits will help keep your Red Nose Pitbull happy and living her best life!
